Banks speaks after Forest Green

10 May 2019

Tranmere Rovers match-winner Ollie Banks was delighted as his goal secured a 1-0 victory over 10-man Forest Green Rovers in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off semi-final under the Prenton Park floodlights on Friday night.

Banks’ sublime winner, which came when he struck right-footed from 25-yards, which crashed off the underside of the crossbar beyond goalkeeper Lewis Ward and over the line, which was awarded by goal-line technology.

The goal came after Gavin Gunning’s red card for an incident with Jay Harris, and Banks now feels pleased that TRFC can head down to Gloucestershire fan.

Banks said: “Before the game, we wanted to take a lead down there and we have to be happy with that, so we are very happy,

“If we keep the ball out, we know we will get to Wembley.

“I’ve had a few long-range shots and they’ve hit the post and hit the bar and they haven’t quite gone in, so it’s nice that one of them has gone in.

“To be honest I couldn’t tell from where I was (if the ball crossed the line). The angle it went down on, I felt it had a chance but if the technology helps, it helps, and it has come in handy.

“There were two good teams who battled it out and both gave a good account of ourselves, I think. I felt we were a bit sloppy in possession at times and possibly could have been more patient to open them up, but we are 1-0 up and we are going down there with an advantage.”

Banks also praised the support of the SWA, who packed out the Park for a Friday night clash.

He added: “The fans have been different class from day one, they have been behind us and we’ll need them again on Monday.

“We are excited going down there, 11v11, and we’ll see what it brings.”
