Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers’ final fixture of the Sky Bet League Two regular season will take place on Saturday, 3pm kick-off, as they travel to Crawley Town.

Already assured of a Play-Off position, it has been a great first campaign back in the EFL for Rovers, who head to Sussex currently sixth in the fourth-tier.

Micky Mellon’s side confirmed their top seven position on Tuesday with a 1-1 home draw against Bury at Prenton Park.

Gabriele Cioffi’s Crawley slipped to a 4-2 defeat away to Carlisle United at last time out.

Team news

Ollie Banks and Jake Caprice will both be assessed ahead of this weekend's game.

Mark Ellis, Luke McCullough and Ishmael Miller remain long term absentees for Rovers.

The Red Devils season so far

Crawley will remain in Sky Bet League Two next season after a run of three games unbeaten in April ensured their survival.

Having been dealt an early blow in August with the departure of former manager Harry Kewell to Notts County, Crawley appointed Italian Cioffi in September, which was only his second club outside of his homeland having been on Gianfranco Zola’s coaching staff at Birmingham City.

The Broadfield Stadium outfit are 19th in the division ahead of welcoming Tranmere down to Sussex, having secured safety last month, picking up wins at relegated Yeovil Town and Play-Off hopefuls Exeter City.

Currently on 50 points from their 45 matches played, the Red Devils have won 14, drawn eight and lost 23 in total.

One to watch

Forward Ollie Palmer has enjoyed a prolific season in front of goal for Crawley this term, scoring 16 league goals, leading their goal-scoring charts.

A native of Epsom, Surrey, Palmer began his playing career at non-league level, spending time turning out for Woking, St Albans, Boreham Wood before two-years with Havant and Waterlooville, where he scored 37 times in 69 games.

His form saw him earn a move to the EFL, signing for Mansfield Town in August 2013, remaining at Field Mill for a further two seasons, either side of a loan stint at Grimsby Town.

Palmer then returned to the south in July 2015 when he signed for Leyton Orient, scoring 12 goals in 65 appearances at Brisbane Road, as well as being loaned to Luton Town in 2017.

On the move again in June 2017, Palmer switched to Lincoln City. In one campaign at Sincil Bank, he turned out on 45 occasions and won the 2018 EFL Trophy with the Imps.

The 27-year-old signed for Crawley last summer and is the Red Devils’ top scorer.
