Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon is looking forward to Tuesday night’s Leasing.com Trophy Group C Northern section tie at home to Salford City at Prenton Park.
Rovers welcome Graham Alexander’s Ammies to the Wirral for the 7:45pm kick-off, with both sides already assured of their passage to the knockout stages of the competition.
The winner of the fixture under the floodlights will finish the group stage top and guarantee themselves a home tie in the regionalised Northern knockout section.
And the boss is going all out for a second victory in the competition, as he aims for improvement from his squad of players.
Mellon said: “I’m looking forward to the game, it’s always good to play games, you’d rather play games than train, so it gives us another opportunity to go out there and play at home in front of our fans, and look to try and win the group.
“If we win the group, we get the next tie at home, and now we’re heading into a busy period, you want that, so we’ll look to do that.
“We want to keep improving all of the time, that is ongoing, it is another important game.”
Mellon hopes that Tuesday’s clash with Salford will give him food for thought over his team selection, with a busy few weeks fast approaching for his men, which include Sky Bet League One and the Emirates FA Cup games.
He added: “We’ll have a look at certain things and the way we play, so we’ll try and get everyone up to speed and we’re ready to go.
“It is important that everyone gets an opportunity to gain full match fitness, you want to have a headache with team selection.”
