Tranmere Rovers centre-back Sid Nelson is looking forward to getting back to Sky Bet League One action, and he is confident ahead of the visit of high-flying Wycombe Wanderers on Sunday lunchtime.

Micky Mellon’s men host the Chairboys for the second time in eight days at Prenton Park in front of the Sky television cameras, as they look to build upon their last outing in the third-tier, a 3-1 victory at MK Dons.

And after an Emirates FA Cup tie with Wycombe last Saturday and a Leasing.com Trophy encounter against Salford, Rovers play their third successive fixture in front of the SWA when Gareth Ainsworth’s promotion hopefuls head up to the Wirral.

Nelson said: “It was a really good win at MK Dons, the team performed very well, we’ve had a couple of cup games but I’m looking forward to a league game on Sunday. I’m buzzing for it.

“Every game we go into, we go into it wanting to win, and that’s how it is. It will be tough on Sunday but we’re ready for it.

“It’s a harder step up from League Two to League One, and it’s just finding our feet. I think we have, we’re showing that we are competitive in this league, even if results haven’t gone our way at times. I believe we are competitive and good enough for this league.

“We performed very well against Wycombe last Saturday I think, and we proved that we are a match for them, and we could have looked like we could have won the game, so I feel it’s going to be a good game.

“They are up there for a reason. They have got points on the board and are winning games, but we were a match for them last week, so it gives me that belief and I hope we can go and perform well enough this Sunday to go and get a win. “

Nelson, 23, is back in the side after an ankle injury, and he is enjoying his football as he aims to stay in the starting line-up.

He added: “I was out for a little while with my ankle and I had to bide my time a bit, but now it’s just about performing well and trying to stay in the team.”
