Preview: Fleetwood Town (A)

22 November 2019

Setting the scene…
Tranmere Rovers return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon when they visit Fleetwood Town.

Micky Mellon takes his side to Highbury Stadium for the 3pm kick-off, where Joey Barton’s Cod Army await.

Rovers triumphed in an Emirates FA Cup first-round replay away to Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday night, with Morgan Ferrier and Kieron Morris on target in the extra-time victory after seeing Kane Wilson sent off.

Fleetwood, who are eighth, welcome Rovers to the Fylde Coast following wins against Barnet and Oldham in the Emirates FA Cup and Leasing.com Trophy.

Team news
Kane Wilson was sent off in Wednesday’s win at Wycombe, so the right-back will be suspended this weekend. David Perkins, Liam Ridehalgh and Neil Danns could be in line to play.

Mark Ellis, Evan Gumbs, Ishmael Miller, Ollie Banks and Jordan Ponticelli are also unavailable through injury.

One to watch
Forward Paddy Madden leads Fleetwood’s goalscoring charts so far this season with ten goals.

The Irishman began his career with Bohemians, winning the League of Ireland in 2009 and the Setanta Sports Cup in 2010.

He joined Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee in January 2011 and clinched another medal in the Cumbrians Football League Trophy triumph that May.

Spells at Yeovil Town, who he won promotion with in 2013, and Scunthorpe United followed, prior to his Fleetwood move in January 2018.

Madden, 29, has become a key part of Barton’s side, and has made over 80 appearances, netting 35 times.
