Rovers Rewind: FA Cup 2001

8 November 2019

Tranmere Rovers return to Emirates FA Cup action in the First-Round of the competition on Saturday, when Wycombe Wanderers come to Prenton Park for a 3pm kick-off.

Rovers have enjoyed success in the First-Round stage in previous seasons, and this week’s flashback will take you down memory lane.

Rewinding 18-years back to November 2001, Rovers ran out 4-1 home winners over Northern Counties East League side, Brigg Town.

Alan Navarro struck a well-taken first-half free-kick to put Rovers, then managed by Dave Watson, in front, with 20 minutes on the clock.

Following the half-time interval, Rovers, then of the Second Division, took command, with Jason Price scoring two goals after 64 and  77 minutes played.

James Leech pulled one back for the Lincolnshire club with 12 minutes to play, before Sean Flynn completed the scoring by adding Tranmere’s fourth of the afternoon after 87 minutes.

TRFC: Murphy, Allen, Hill, Yates, Roberts, Flynn, Henry, Navarro, Price, Barlow, Rideout (Seyni Ndiaye 66)
