Danns: "We need to believe and keep going

6 October 2019

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Neil Danns says he and his team-mates must “believe and keep going” after their 1-0 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Callum Lang netted the only goal of the Sky Bet League One fixture on 20 minutes, as Micky Mellon’s side also saw Connor Jennings sent off for two bookable offences at the end of the first-half.

But despite the defeat, Danns is pleased with the way that Rovers did not give up, and that they must keep positive.

Danns said: “We’ll make no excuses, that’s the main thing and we didn’t give in, we kept going until the end and we could have equalised at the end.

“We were pretty comfortable in the game, but we probably didn’t use the ball as well as we could have and it can be frustrating, but we have to keep working hard on the training ground as the gaffer is putting on really good sessions for us.

“For now, we just have to believe and keep going.

“Before they scored, I didn’t think that there was much in the game, I felt that we were pretty comfortable and it was only a matter of time that we would open up, but then obviously they scored and the sending off changes the dynamics of the game.

“Then we were up against it, but we tried to keep going, it’s a learning curve again and we have to move on.”
