Hepburn-Murphy looking to build confidence

17 October 2019

Forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy hopes that Tranmere Rovers can take the confidence from their win away to Coventry City last Sunday into Friday night’s Sky Bet League One home fixture against Southend United.

Friday night football is back at Prenton Park for the first time this season, as Rovers host the Shrimpers aiming for a second victory in a row, kick-off 7:45pm.

Micky Mellon’s men moved up to 18th in the third-tier after three-points in the Midlands, with Hepburn-Murphy, 21, confident that he and his team-mates can push on up the division.

Hepburn-Murphy said: “Coming off the back of two wins, the lads’ confidence is up, individually and as a team, so we can take it into the next game, and we are all definitely confident.

“We just hope we can put pressure on teams that are above us, and that’s what we are going to try and do come tomorrow.

“It is always harder playing teams who have much more to fight for, as they are at the bottom of the table, so it will be a tough game.

“The gaffer is drilling into us to keep digging in and keep getting our fitness up, it comes a lot from him, and we have worked hard on the training field.”

Hepburn-Murphy reserved praise for the support from the SWA, and he wants to nail down a regular first-team place in Mellon’s side.

He added: “Our fans are amazing. Every time we play at home, they come out in their numbers, they are loud, and they get behind us, so we definitely use that as an advantage.

“You have to take your chances when you get put in the starting team, so that’s what I want to do.”
