Ladies Report: Manchester Stingers 1-0 Tranmere Rovers

7 October 2019

Tranmere Rovers’ Ladies were beaten 1-0 in their North West Women’s Regional League fixture away to Manchester Stingers on Sunday.

The Ladies, who currently sit top of the division, having collected nine points from their opening five games after three victories, suffered their second league defeat of their campaign.

Following wins of Wigan Athletic Ladies and Fleetwood Town Wrens, TRFC’s Ladies were looking to extend their positive start to the season.

Rovers went close on numerous occasions throughout the contest but couldn't manage to take full advntage.

Tranmere hit the crossbar four separate times during the contest, which was played on a 3G AstroTurf playing surface at Dean Trust in Ardwick.

Rovers also missed two one-on-one opportunities as the league leaders dominated, but they were thwarted by their Mancunian hosts.

But despite the openings at goal, Rovers could not find a breakthrough and would be made to pay in the 89th minute in a cruel blow.

A deflected effort beyond the Tranmere goalkeeper won a tight game for the Manchester Stingers, who moved up to second and level on points with the Rovers Ladies.

Player of the match went to Rovers player Kerry Holder and another excellent performance from youngester Lucia Molinari

Next up for Tranmere Rovers’ Ladies is a home game against Sir Tom Finney FC Women, which will be played at Ellesmere Port on Sunday.
