Micky looks ahead to Doncaster

25 October 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon says that his players are “keen to keep improving” as they prepare to host Doncaster Rovers at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon, 3pm kick-off.

Rovers return to Sky Bet League One action against Darren Moore’s South Yorkshire outfit, who travel across the Pennines to the Wirral sitting in sixth, having won their last two games in the third tier.

Tranmere will be looking to respond positively after Tuesday night’s defeat away to former Premier League club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, and boss Mellon is pleased at his side’s desire to improve in a division that Rovers have not graced since 2014.

Speaking to the local media ahead of Saturday’s home fixture, Mellon said: “Everybody knows where they are at, and the good thing is that the boys are keen to learn and get better and keep improving all of the time.

“We want to get the maximum out of them and squeeze and squeeze and try and make them the best that they can be, and ultimately you need to win games and that’s what it’s about.

“They (the players) are not robots, they are humans with emotions, and they want to put things right.

“All of this process stuff is to give us a better chance of winning games, but we need to get a result, we need to win games and we understand that.

“We want to win as much as anybody else, but I’ve got to take care of the process that gives us a good chance of winning, but I understand at the end of the day that it is about winning games of football.”
