For each fixture this season, we will take a trip down memory lane to recall a Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.
Rovers visit St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium on Sunday lunchtime for a third-tier meeting against Coventry City in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Rewinding six-years to Saturday 23rd November 2013, Rovers, then managed by Ronnie Moore, hit a five-star display on their travels as Ryan Lowe’s hat-trick sealed an emphatic victory over the Sky Blues.
The fixture, which was held in front of 1,815 supporters at Northampton Town’s Sixfields, where Coventry found themselves playing that season.
Tranmere led within four minutes when forward Lowe ran onto Jason Koumas’ pass to convert past Joe Murphy into the top right-corner.
Rovers’ second came through Jake Kirby on 37 minutes, who profited from a defensive mix-up to drill in a low strike.
Lowe scored again on the stroke of half-time, latching onto a lofted pass from Max Power to chip Murphy with a right-footed shot, which looped beyond the goalkeeper.
Lowe’s hat-trick came nine minutes after the interval, pouncing on a poor kick from Murphy, with a spectacular right-footed lob from 25-yards which found the top right-corner.
Carl Baker pulled one back from the penalty spot, firing past Owain Fon Williams, before Ash Taylor was sent off for the visitors.
But Rovers added a fifth through James Wallace’s 89th right-footed low drive as they took maximum points back to the Wirral.
