Rovers Rewind: MK Dons - 2006

31 October 2019

For each fixture this season, take a trip down memory lane to recall a memorable Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

With Saturday’s trip to MK Dons on the horizon, we’ll revisit a Rovers victory down in Buckinghamshire over 13-years ago, back in April 2006.

Delroy Facey struck a last-minute winner at the National Hockey Stadium as Brian Little’s men preserved their place in the third-tier of English football.

Three goals in a frantic final five minutes gave Tranmere a victory to take back up to the Wirral, which saw them confirm their survival.

Rovers led with 85 minutes on the clock when Jason McAteer saw his free-kick headed into his own net by David Partridge.

However, Izale McLeod’s overhead kick beat Steve Wilson in Rovers’ goal to draw the Dons level.

With time running out, Tranmere won it in dramatic fashion, as Facey turned his marker to drive in a fierce shot past MK Dons goalkeeper, Matt Baker.

Rovers went onto finish 18th in the table, collecting 54 points in the division.
