Rovers Rewind: Shrewsbury 2014

4 October 2019

For each fixture this season, take a trip down memory lane to recall a memorable Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

Sam Ricketts’ Shrewsbury Town visit Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon for a third-tier clash, as Rovers aim for a second home win in a row – with Tranmere boss Micky Mellon coming up against his former club.

The last time the two sides met at Sky Bet League One level saw Rovers come out on top, as they beat the Salop 2-1 in front of the SWA in April 2014.

Rovers, then managed by John McMahon, edged in front through midfielder Max Power, who looped a 19th minute header past goalkeeper Chris Weale from Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro's cross.

TRFC’s opponents from Shropshire levelled with 73 minutes on the clock, when Paul Parry headed beyond shot-stopper Owain Fon Williams in the Tranmere goal.

Having scored the first, Power turned provider for Rovers’ winner with just five minutes to play in the contest.

Power fed Junior Brown, who played the role of super sub as he drove in to beat Weale and earn all three-points for Tranmere that afternoon.

TRFC: Williams, Pennington, Ridehalgh, Jennings, Taylor, Goodison (Arthurworrey 78), Power, Koumas (Brown 78), Cassidy, Lowe, Akpa-Akpro

Attendance: 5,698
