Danns: It's a Club that I want to be part of

19 September 2019

Midfielder Neil Danns knew that when he met manager Micky Mellon, Tranmere Rovers was the only Club he wanted to sign for.

The 36-year-old Liverpudlian agreed a deal at Prenton Park until the end of the 2019/20 season on Thursday and adds experience to Rovers’ midfield.

Danns, who is a Guyana international, has played in each of the top four tiers of English football, admits that Scotsman Mellon and his passion for the game, was decisive in his decision to link up with the Wirral side.

He said: “I think everyone who meets the Gaffer sees that enthusiasm for football straight away and his love for the game and instantly I knew that this is the sort of manager I want to play for.

“It’s a Club that is not too far from me, I’m originally from Liverpool and it’s a Club that I’ve followed so being a Scouser, you follow all the teams around here.

“Once I was given the opportunity to come down and meet the manager, it is a Club that straight away I wanted to be a part of.

“What the lads have achieved so far with back-to-back promotions is unbelievable and you can see why they have done that when you speak to the manager because he has got a real appetite for football and that matches my own.

“Hopefully I can bring experience and when the fans see me, they’ll see the energy and appetite that I do play the game with, I’ve got that hunger and that drive.

“I’ve always looked out for Tranmere’s results since I was a kid and I’m happy and proud to be given the opportunity.

“I have that drive in me and it proves to myself as long as I’ve got that hunger my body feels alright.

“The Club is progressing, and back-to-back promotions is an unbelievable achievement. League One is a different animal, and everyone knows every time you step up and it does get harder, but I have no doubt that there is enough quality in this team to give anyone a game in this league.”
