Match Preview: Peterborough United

Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers return to Prenton Park on Tuesday night for a Sky Bet League One fixture under the floodlights when they host Peterborough United, 7:45pm kick-off.

Micky Mellon’s men will be aiming to get back on track following on from Saturday afternoon’s 3-0 defeat away to Oxford United.

By contrast, Darren Ferguson’s visitors travel to the Wirral after their 6-0 home win over Rochdale at London Road which moved them up to sixth.

Team News:

Corey Blackett-Taylor is available for selection against the Posh after serving his three-game suspension.

Manager Mellon confirmed that right-back Calum Woods sustained a calf injury during Saturday’s loss at Oxford.

Kane Wilson (knee), Morgan Ferrier (knee), Jake Caprice, (ankle) Mark Ellis, (knee) Evan Gumbs (ACL) and Ishmael Miller (hamstring), who all remain be sidelined.

One to Watch

Forward Ivan Toney has become a key component of Peterborough United’s side since signing in August 2018.

Born in Northampton, Toney began his career with his hometown club after turning professional in 2012, playing on 53 occasions for the Cobblers.

Toney signed for Newcastle United in 2015 but spent most of his time away from St James’ Park on loan at Barnsley, who he won promotion with in 2016, Shrewsbury Town, Wigan Athletic and Scunthorpe United.

Leaving Newcastle permanently in 2018, Toney moved to Peterborough and has made over 50 appearances in the third-tier for the Posh.

The 23-year-old is Sky Bet League One’s top scorer so far this term, with seven goals to his name.
