Rovers drawn at home to Leicester

10 December 2020

Tranmere Rovers have been drawn at home to Leicester City U21 in the next round of the Papa John’s Trophy.

The game will take place the week commencing January 11th 2021.

It will be the second consecutive season Rovers have faced the young Foxes in this competition, and it was Leicester who eliminated Tranmere at this stage in January 2020.

Speaking about the draw in his pre-match press conference ahead of Exeter City, boss Keith Hill said: “When you play U21 teams from Premier League clubs, they pose different problems with the way they play.

“Man City last week, they played like the first team under Pep and it is the same at Leicester under Brendan. They play in a very similar way to their first teams so it will be a difficult game against a possession based side.

“I have faced them before in previous seasons and it will be a difficult fixture but we are in the hat for the next round and we want to progress.

“We see it as another opportunity for the players to express themselves and for us to try and go as far as we can in this competition.”
