Match Preview: Rochdale

13 February 2020

Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers will make the trip to Spotland Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on Rochdale, 3pm kick-off.

Micky Mellon’s men will look to build on the point gained at home on Tuesday night against Bristol Rovers.

The Rovers currently sit in 21st place, in League One after 30 games, 6 points behind 20th place AFC Wimbledon.

Our opponents Rochdale, sit in 19th place after 31 games, with a 10 point lead over the Rovers.

Team news

Following injuries sustained during our match against Portsmouth, both Callum Woods and Kane Wilson will be out for 2-3 weeks.

George Ray picked up a groin injury on Tuesday - the extent of this injury is currently unknown.

On a more positive note, Clarke and Banks have both made a return to training this week.

One to watch

Ian Henderson is our man to watch from Rochdale, scoring 13 goals out of 28 league appearances this season.

Henderson joined the home side on a free transfer following his release from Colchester in 2013.

The striker rose up through Norwich City’s youth academy, with spells at Northampton, Luton Town and Colchester United.

Finding success at his current club, Henderson has bagged over 100 goals during his time there, including two goals against  Rovers during our first game of the season, which saw the travelling side take home all three points in a 3-2 victory.

Past meeting

Rochdale made the trip to Prenton Park in the opening game of the season, taking the lead after only 14 minutes with a penalty from Henderson.

After 70 minutes, Rovers found themselves 3-0 down, with a late come back attempt, the homeside, managed to reduce the deficit through a Dooley own goal and a 93rd minute goal from Connor Jennings.

This was not enough and Rochdale left Prenton Park with all three points.
