Micky's Doncaster assessment

5 February 2020

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon was disappointed at his side’s 3-0 home defeat to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

TRFC conceded all three goals after the break at Prenton Park, with Jacob Ramsey (x2) and Fejiri Okenabirhie on target for Darren Moore’s visitors.

And speaking to the press, Micky gave an honest assessment following full-time.

Mellon said: “In order to try and give ourselves a chance of picking up results in a tough league, we have to defend better than what we did today.

“It’s frustrating. Doncaster were very, very clean and aggressive in the final third and make it very difficult with our three frontmen.

“As a defence, the team in the final third, we gave away far too many sloppy goals.

“I thought the effort, the energy level and how we knocked it around was fine. I thought we started the second half and we got a bit stressed and out run at times.

“They are the moments that at the level you are playing now, we all know they are the moments where you have to be clean at defending and match their running and that’s when the wrestle comes on, and you have to be good in that spell.”
