Clarke excited to get going at Prenton Park

2 January 2020

Centre-back Peter Clarke is excited to get going after he became Tranmere Rovers’ first signing of the January transfer window.

The Southport-born defender, who has made over 700 career appearances in the EFL, adds experience to Micky Mellon’s options at the back.

And after completing his switch to Prenton Park, Clarke gave his thoughts on linking up with Rovers, in an interview with the Club’s website.

Clarke said: “I’m really, really happy. I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and being available to play some games.

“I’m honest, hardworking, I wear my heart on my sleeve. Every time I go out there to train or play, I’ll leave everything out on the pitch and always give it my best.”

Clarke believes that his experience and knowhow can be used as a positive on Tranmere’s young squad.

He added: “I’ve learnt one or two things that you can recall on experience, and hopefully I can pass that experience onto other members of the squad.

“I’m just looking forward to being available and going out there and help the lads.

“As a defender you pride yourself on clean sheets and getting those shut outs and keep the opposition teams at bay.

“That’s something myself, the defenders in general and the goalkeeper will be looking towards and hoping we can do that to benefit the team, the staff and the supporters. It gives us a good platform to build from.

“I spoke to the manager and we had a long chat about what he wants at the Football Club and what is already in place at the Club. It’s now time that we progress and move forward.

“If we go into games well prepared which we will do with the manager and Jacko, we’ll give ourselves a real opportunity to pick up points and finishing further up the table than where we are now.”

Clarke will be eligible to make his Rovers debut in Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup third-round tie away to Watford at Vicarage Road, and he is relishing the opportunity of coming up against the Premier League side.

Peter concluded: “The lads have done fantastic to get themselves into the third-round, and as players it is always nice to draw a Premier League side and to go to their patch will be brilliant.”
