Setting the scene…
Tranmere Rovers are back on the road this Saturday when they travel to Roots Hall, where Southend United await in Sky Bet League One, kick-off 3pm.
Micky Mellon’s men will return to third-tier action following a ten-day break, with Sol Campbell’s Shrimpers awaiting them in Essex.
Rovers are 12 points and one position ahead of Southend heading into the fixture this weekend, and three points could move TRFC level with MK Dons.
Team news
Alex Woodyard is in contention to make his Rovers debut against his former club after signing on loan from Peterborough United.
Liam Ridehalgh and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy remain doubts after festive injuries.
Scott Davies, Mark Ellis, Ollie Banks and Evan Gumbs are all sidelined for Saturday.
One to watch
Midfielder Charlie Kelman has scored four times for Campbell’s Shrimpers so far this campaign.
Kelman, 18, is a graduate of Southend’s youth system, made his league debut for the club in January 2019, featuring 12 times during the second half of that campaign.
The Basildon-born young forward has played eight times for Southend so far in 2019/20.
Kelman is also a United States youth international having represented them at U18 and U20 level.
