Setting the scene…

It’s back to Sky Bet League One action for Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday night when Sunderland visit Prenton Park for a clash under the lights, kick-off 7:45pm.

Micky Mellon’s men saw their Emirates FA Cup adventure come to an end on Sunday following their home defeat to Manchester United.

Focus now returns to the third-tier, with Phil Parkinson’s promotion-chasing Black Cats next up.

Sunderland are currently on 42 points after winning three of their last five Sky Bet League One outings.

Team news

Ollie Banks, Mark Ellis and Evan Gumbs are all out of action through injuries.

Alex Woodyard is available for selection having been cup-tied on Sunday.

Kane Wilson could also make his first appearance after re-signing on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

One to watch

Attacking midfielder Chris Maguire became a Sunderland player in June 2018.

Linking up with the Black Cats from Bury, has made over 60 appearances for the Club since signing.

After starting his career at Aberdeen, where made played 158 times, he has represented Kilmarnock, Derby County, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Rotherham United.

Maguire later went onto win promotion from Sky Bet League Two with Oxford United in 2016, turning out on 63 occasions for the U’s.

Following a stint at Bury, the Scotland international, 30, switched to Sunderland and has scored ten times this season.
