Micky looking forward to Premier League test

3 January 2020

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon believes that Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup third-round tie at Watford is a good opportunity for his side to showcase themselves against a Premier League outfit.

Rovers visit Vicarage Road for the fixture with Nigel Pearson’s Hornets as they face top-flight opponents for the second consecutive campaign.

And speaking to the Club website before Rovers made their journey down to Hertfordshire, Mellon had his say on the upcoming cup outing.

Mellon said: “The FA Cup is an opportunity for us to take part in a great game at a Premier League club, so it is fantastic for us. We’ve worked hard to get here so we want to make sure with a big following, we go and do ourselves justice.

“It’s an opportunity for us all, the players and the management and fans, to go to a big Premier League club and test ourselves and give it our all and go and enjoy the occasion because it’s fantastic, it’s the FA Cup.

“They are a Premier League club, they are Premier League players, so you know that’s the type of quality that you are going to come up against and it’s something that you go and test yourself against and go and enjoy.

“I’ve come across Nigel quite a few times. He’s a professional and a very good manager, he’s a very good fit for Watford so you know that it will be a really tough game.

“It’s important that we go down there and enjoy it and take part in it and we appreciate it.

“We will go down there and work very, very hard to make sure we make it as tough as possible and show the qualities that we have.”
