Volunteers Week: TRIC Volunteers continue to support local community

2 June 2020

“It’s so nice to see how many people have volunteered and seeing the same faces and that says a lot about our local area that so many people want to help.”

Those are the words of Jess, who is volunteering for Tranmere Rovers in the Community during the current Covid-19 pandemic by helping distribute more than 700 emergency food parcels to local Wirral residents who need it the most in these difficult times.

The deliveries have been undertaken by TRIC volunteers in the Birkenhead and wider Wirral community.

Jess explained how the food parcels initiative is supporting those in need.

She said: “Over the last few weeks now we’ve been packing the food parcels in the local area, we’ve had deliveries and donations from the public and small shops in the area who want to donate.

“We as a team will pack the parcels here and we are then able to deliver the parcels in the local area.

“We see how appreciative and how grateful the people are who receive these parcels, some of them haven’t been able to get out over the past few weeks and some of them are just going through a difficult time.”

This week (Monday 1st-Friday 7th June) is Volunteers Week in Great Britain.

Volunteers Week is held annually which recognises the commitment of volunteers and it is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Highlighting the efforts of volunteers throughout the British Isles, Volunteers Week champions the voluntary sector and volunteering.

Fellow volunteer and TRFC fan Tony added: “I know a few vulnerable people myself. I have got an auntie who relies on things like food banks at times. "People come together like this and what they are doing is a great job.

“People need a little bit of help so I’m happy to come down and help deliver the parcels.”

Tranmere Rovers would like to thank all of the volunteers that are currently working alongside TRIC to help deliver food parcels.
