Heswall Round Table donate £3,000 to pay for emergency food packages

29 March 2020

Tranmere Rovers Football Club would like to say a huge thank you to Heswall Round Table for their fantastic donation of £3,000 to pay for emergency food packages for those in need.

Please find below a statement from Heswall Round Table regarding the donation…

“At Heswall Round Table we fundraise throughout the year with large scale events such as the Tranmere Fireworks and the Santa Sleigh runs that we take throughout various Wirral streets in December. We then donate funds back into the community via local good causes, which can be well-known charities, smaller community groups or even individuals who are trying to provide a service to those who are vulnerable or less fortunate.

“As soon as the current social distancing measures began, Heswall Round Table started to invite applications for funding from anyone in need of support for providing services to those suffering in light of closures, delivery interruptions or isolation. When we heard from our Vice Chair, Jordan Scott, about his volunteer work with Tranmere Rovers FC during the current Covid-19 crisis, we felt it was such a worthy cause and it's exactly the kind of initiative that people would want their donations to go towards.

“Tranmere has teamed up with the charity Helplink (which supports 800-900 elderly people in normal times) to provide daily calls, shopping and prescription delivery services for vulnerable people required to self-isolate.

“Although many voluntary groups are popping up to do this, Tranmere are able to ensure that it is done with appropriately vetted volunteers, protections for handling and accounting for cash etc. In most cases the recipients of shopping can pay but there are some who have no money or no ability to cook for themselves, and for this most needy group Tranmere are set up to provide emergency food parcels or emergency cooked meals.

“All of this is being done on an entirely non profit basis to help the community and the scheme is currently supporting in excess of 1,000 vulnerable people in the community, with numbers only expected to increase.

“It is particularly rewarding to be able to contribute support back into the communities that help us by attending our events or donating to us. If anyone wishes to donate to help us support more great local causes, they can do so online or via text message. We would also invite applications from other causes helping vulnerable people at this difficult time.”
