Micky calling to keep high standards

12 March 2020

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon believes Saturday’s Sky Bet League One home fixture against Lincoln City at Prenton Park represents another opportunity for his side.

Rovers return to the Wirral this weekend aiming for a fourth win in a row after three successive away triumphs in the third-tier.

Victories on their travels away to Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley and Blackpool sees Rovers just three-points from safety in the battle for survival – with a game in hand.

Michael Appleton brings his Imps across to the North West from Sincil Bank for the 3pm kick-off, with Rovers going in search of extending their recent form.

And Micky had his say in the lead up to Rovers hosting Lincoln when he spoke during a pre-match press conference.

“It’s a massively valuable game for us with a huge three-points at stake again,” Mellon explained.

“I think you have to concentrate on yourself and be self-analytic and critical and make sure that you know the standard that you have to hit yourself.

“In the last few games, it’s come together a bit, but we can’t back off and you have to keep being prepared to hit that all the time.

“We all said that we wanted to improve, and everything was in the right place. We just have to keep working hard and show the qualities that was needed to get the results and that’s all we have done, so we’ll continue to do that.

“It will be one game at a time, and it will be like that from now until the end of the season. We have to show improvement and take every day as it comes, and we’ll try and get better and keep working hard to where we all want, and that is a team that competes every week at League One level.

“We have to make sure we know what has got us those results and it’s pure hard work, desire and all of those other qualities that have been needed, so we have to do that again, so we have got to go again.”
