Tranmere Rovers Football Club were proud to support a fantastic community initiative ran by Wirral Deen Centre Mosque and a number of generous Indian restaurants who donated more than 200 meals to people in need.
Indian restaurants Britannia Spice, Ruhi Balti, Paneer and Wirral Tandoori all kindly provided food for families situated in Wirral.
The Marquee, located at Prenton Park, was used as the food pick-up point, with volunteers from Tranmere Rovers Trust, Mick Whitley MP and his labour team, Inspector John Sacker, Community Engagement Lead for Merseyside Police, Wirral Deen Centre Mosque, Alison McGovern MP and Reverend Mike Loach of Christchurch HR Bebington all offering their support by helping to deliver the food on Thursday evening.
Each year during Ramadan, Wirral Deen Centre Mosque, located in Birkenhead, open their doors to share food and families from all backgrounds and this year has been no different.
Both Mark and Nicola Palios were in attendance at the Marquee on Thursday night to offer their support and thanks to all those involved.
Mark said: “As Wirral’s Family Club, we always want to try and play our part in helping support the local community.
“We have a strong and longstanding relationship with the Wirral Deen Centre Mosque, who are located less than a mile from Prenton Park, and when they got in touch, we were more than happy to help. We are pleased we have been able to help support the generous donation from the restaurants and the volunteers who gave up their time to ensure all the food was delivered to the families.”
Ben Harrison from Tranmere Rovers Trust added: “It was so heart-warming to see the Club, its fans and the local community come together to provide essential meals to local people.
“In a time of crisis, we have seen a fantastic gesture from Wirral Deen Centre, Britannia Spice, Ruhi Balti, Paneer and Wirral Tandoori. “
Ibrahim Syed from Wirral Deen Centre Mosque concluded: “Despite the lock down we are delighted to be able to continue the tradition of Ramadan by sharing food and friendship with all members of the community particularly those most in need.
“It has been a symbolic effort showing how we are stronger together, with the coming together of MPs, Tranmere Rovers, churches mosques and Indian restaurants and the others.”
