Club Statement: Fans returning to Prenton Park

26 November 2020

Following today’s Government announcement that Wirral has been placed in Tier 2, we are delighted to announce that, subject to final sign off by the Safety Advisory Group, a limited number of fans will be allowed back into Prenton Park for our home game on Saturday 5th December at home to Walsall.

It will be fantastic to have at least some of the SWA back in the stadium as our twelfth man, for the first time since February.

Two thousand fans will be able to attend the game against Walsall and seats will be allocated by a ballot of season ticket holders. The ballot will be held on Monday and successful season ticket holders will be notified as soon as possible.

Any season ticket holder who is not successful through the ballot will be given priority for the next home game against Stevenage on 15th December and will also be provided with an iFollow pass for the match they are unable to attend (unless opted out of iFollow).

There will be no away fans permitted in the stadium whilst capacity is limited below our normal attendance levels.

Where there is more than one season ticket holder registered to the same address, all season ticket holders in that house will be allocated tickets together.

For those successful in the ballot, in order to comply with social distancing measures, there will be a number of important differences on a match day for those successful in the ballot:

  • There will be numerous measures in place to ensure Covid safety. You can read more about these online nearer the time but here are the main points:

    • Hand sanitising stations around the stadium;
    • Turnstiles regularly sanitised;
    • One way systems in place;
    • Gaps between supporters in the stands;
    • Ball sanitisers in use in all stands;
    • Staggered arrival and departure times;
    • Ground thoroughly cleaned between fixtures;
    • Socially distanced queues.

  • You will probably not be able to sit in your usual seat. In order to maximise capacity we will have to seat people in different seats and even different stands to normal. For this game, and all other games where capacity is limited to 2,000 fans, supporters will be seated in the Kop, the Cowshed and the hospitality lounges in Main Stand. The Johnny King stand will be closed until capacity levels are increased.

  • You will be asked to wear a mask at all times in the stadium unless exempt. Shouting and singing can increase the risk of spreading the infection, but we know that the passion and atmosphere at games makes it difficult to stop this happening, so wearing masks is the best way to prevent the spread of infection in this situation. Our first priority is to keep you all safe.

  • We will ask you to arrive earlier than normal, and within a particular time window, in order to ensure we can safely get supporters through all of the extra checks that will need to be in place without congestion at the turnstiles.

  • We will be able to serve food and alcohol in the Ray Mathias and Ian Muir Lounges. We are currently working on whether Aldos can be opened for this game, on a pre-booked basis with a meal, and will provide more information on that in the next couple of days. The Trust Marquee will be open for food and drink for a maximum of roughly 100 Trust members who have pre-booked tickets. The concourse kiosks will be open for food pre-match only, but will not be able to sell alcohol due to Covid restrictions.

We appreciate that all of these measures will make match-day feel different to normal and are not ideal in some respects, but we hope you will bear with us as we do all we can to make this work and get as many fans back into the stadium as quickly as possible.

Those attending games will be asked to abide by a code of conduct which is designed to ensure everyone attending is protected to the greatest degree possible from Covid.

In order to facilitate track and trace, we will be issuing electronic tickets to season ticket holders rather than distributing physical season cards.  These can be either printed at home and brought to the match, or scanned from a smartphone.   For any season ticket holder who does not have a printer or a smartphone, the ticket office will be able to provide you with a printed ticket, but these must be collected from the Club Store before matchday.

We will communicate more once the ballot has been held but in the meantime there are a few things we need all season ticket holders to do:

  1. If you are wanting a season ticket cash refund, you must let us know by Sunday 29th November by 11pm so that you are not included in the ballot;

  2. If you want to remain a season ticket holder but wish to opt out of iFollow, you must let us know by Sunday, 11pm. You will be included in the ballot but will not get access to iFollow; and

  3. If you want to remain as a season ticket holder but do NOT wish to be included in the ballot for Saturday 5th December - for example if you are shielding, in quarantine or live in a Tier 3 area and are therefore not permitted to travel - please let us know by CLICKING HERE. This will ensure that tickets are only allocated to those who wish to attend the match and minimise the risk of allocated seats being empty. Please note, we will ask all season ticket holders prior to each game under these circumstances if they wish to opt out. This form only covers the next two home games (Walsall and Stevenage) or if you already know your decision for the entire season.

If you want to remain as a season ticket holder but do NOT wish to be included in the ballot for the 5th December - for example if you are shielding, in quarantine or live in a Tier 3 area and are therefore not permitted to travel - please let us know by CLICKING HERE.

This will ensure that tickets are only allocated to those who wish to attend the match and minimise the risk of allocated seats being empty.

If you have any concerns or questions please direct them to the Supporter Liasion Officers in the first instance. They can be contacted on SLO@tranmererovers.co.uk
