Report: Tranmere 1-0 Brackley

27 November 2020

Tranmere Rovers sealed their place in the third round of the FA Cup for the third year in a row with a 1-0 win at home to Brackley Town in front of the BBC Two cameras

Kaiyne Woolery scored the only goal of the game as Rovers ensured their passage to Monday’s draw, and the win resulted in Tranmere remaining unbeaten throughout November.

Brackley put up a strong fight throughout, and made life difficult for Tranmere, but a moment of magic from Woolery sealed the win.

Tranmere made one change from last Tuesday’s win against Carlisle United, as Liam Ridehalgh returned for the injured Lee O’Connor.

The non-league visitors started with a spring in their step, which may have been expected, and Tre Mitford had the first chance on the quarter hour mark, as a long range shot dipped over the cross bar.

Tranmere responded as Calum MacDonald curled an effort from the edge of the penalty box wide of the mark, and a James Vaughan scissor kick went over too in the 19th minute.

Brackley had another clear sight on goal on the half hour mark Shep Murombedzi whipped an effort just left of Scott Davies’ left hand post.

One minute later, Liam Feeney had equally as good a chance, side footing from close range into the grateful hands of Danny Lewis in the Brackley Town goal.

The second half began with Brackley guiding a header across the face of goal as they proved they were well in this contest at Prenton Park.

Tranmere’s first strike in the second period came through Vaughan as he held off his man, to turn and strike, but it was high over the cross bar and no concern to Brackley Town.

Two changes for Tranmere came in the 59th minute as Paul Lewis replaced Otis Khan and Woolery stepped in for Liam Feeney.

Rovers went ahead in the 66th minute, as Woolery collected the ball on the left hand side and bent a beautiful shot into the corner of the goal.

Brackley continued to fight as Tranmere dominated the ball, with Woolery and Lewis making a big impact following their introduction.

The final TRFC change saw Blackett-Taylor replaced by Danny Lloyd in the 81st minute.

Tranmere’s second soon came as a lovely low ball from Woolery nearly found Vaughan but the Club’s top goal scorer couldn’t connect to test the goalkeeper. Less than two minutes later, Woolery turned in the penalty box but his shot was deflected wide.

Tranmere held on comfortably to their win to seal their place in Monday’s third round draw.
