Tranmere Rovers appoint Keith Hill as first team manager

21 November 2020

Tranmere Rovers Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Keith Hill as the new first team manager.

Hill has a proven track record at this level, most notably achieving either promotion or a place in the Play-Offs in every full season he has managed in League Two.

An experienced manager, with nearly 700 matches under his belt, Hill has achieved two promotions from League Two, and kept Rochdale in League One for five years, whilst playing an attractive style of football.

He also helped Rochdale achieve their first promotion in 41 years alongside their highest ever league finish.

Tranmere Rovers Chairman, Mark Palios, said: “The remarkable job done by caretaker manager Ian Dawes, assisted by Andy Parkinson, meant that we had the time to conduct a very thorough interview process. This was necessary given the number of high-quality candidates who applied for the role.

“Keith emerged as the strongest candidate and I am delighted he has accepted the role. Keith has indicated that he wishes to work with Ian as his assistant manager and Andy as a first team coach, which reflects the great job they have done in the interim.

“With Keith’s managerial experience, and Ian and Andy’s knowledge of the current squad and coaching ability, I am confident they will make a very effective team.”

Due to the uncertainties caused by Covid-19, Hill’s appointment is initially to the end of the season, with an automatic 12-month extension in the event of promotion. His first game in charge will be at home to Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

Hill said: “I am really excited and proud to be representing this fantastic football club as first team manager. It is a Club that has the facilities and players to achieve promotion this season and that will be our aim.

“I cannot wait to get started and I am only sorry that my first games in charge will be without supporters in attendance.”
