Jackson's reaction to Cheltenham match

19 September 2020

Manager Mike Jackson gave his reaction to Saturday’s game at Cheltenham Town at Prenton Park.

Jackson said: “We didn’t compete in the first half. We were too late with the second balls and we didn’t win enough first balls. When we did get hold of the ball, we lost possession and we need to get on top in those areas to give yourself a chance in the game.

“We conceded sloppy goals from set plays which we spoke about as we have been very good so far on throughout pre-season, but it was disappointing.

“In the second half we got going again and we made a change at the end of the first half. We brought Liam Feeney on and changed our shape and that was a positive from today watching him play. We improved in the second half, but we cannot have a first half like that and expect to win football matches.

“We know that, and it is now about us making sure that doesn’t happen again and we improve from that.

“I was disappointed with the goals we conceded but I was more disappointed the way we didn’t compete in those first stages and that really does disappoint me.

“We have spoken about it as a group and we must compete in these games, compete in the 18-yard boxes, we have done a lot of work on it and it is down to them to do their jobs.

“We know where we need to be good at and the players do too.”
