Keith Hill's reaction to Cheltenham defeat

2 April 2021

Keith Hill gave his assessment after Tranmere Rovers’ game away at Cheltenham Town on Good Friday.

Hill said: “We’re bitterly disappointed, at no point did we see the sight of that type of result and performance in the course of this week in preparation, the lads have been prepared really well and we’re disappointed that we didn’t deal with the second phase set plays, as we conceded from three set plays and that’s extremely disappointing.

“Now we have to recover and show how strong we are, to recover and respond from the result. I thought Cheltenham were excellent and they did stuff that I like us to do.

“We weren’t up to the performance levels that I expected and that were effective and demanding to the players.

“We need to move forward from a psychological point of view with optimism and enthusiasm and remind the players what we are good at going into Monday’s game.

“We’ve had great responses from the defeats that we have, and it’s been difficult to watch as a group of staff and players, but we have to meet the demands and we’ve previously shown that we are capable of that.

“There’s enough hurt in that result to magnify the way that the players are feeling, and we have to highlight what we have done right and respond on Monday in a positive manner.

“It’s been a big negative and it is one that we have to respond from, but it is one that we are capable of doing.

“As a group we have to respond positively and that’s what makes you a better performer, and better educated for the next game and your career individually but as a group, I know that we will get the response.”
