Lewis reacts to important win against Barrow

26 April 2021

Paul Lewis was delighted with “a big win” for Tranmere Rovers as they earned back-to-back victories by beating Barrow 1-0 at Prenton Park last Saturday.

David Nugent’s second-half header secured all three points for Keith Hill’s side against the Bluebirds in Sky Bet League Two.

And midfielder Lewis hailed Rovers’ display at their home ground as they earned another win.

Lewis said: “It was a big win for us. In the first-half we didn’t look really at it, but we got back to ourselves in the second-half.

“They are a tough, physical side to play against and I thought that we matched them in the second-half and I thought that we were the much better team.

“We all put a good shift in during the second-half and we deserved the win, but we now have to keep going.

“We are always in games but it’s the small things that count, like getting on the end of crosses and putting blocks in. We have always been solid at the back, but it is just about getting more moving forward.

“We have just got to win our two games, football is a funny game, and you never know what will happen, so we know what we need to do.

“We are still fighting for promotion and anything can happen, we have got to stay positive as a group and go out there and give it everything that we have got.

“We are positive and to get back-to-back wins and a clean sheet and it gives us confidence moving into the last two games.

“We weren’t getting much joy in the first-half, and in the second-half, we were very good, and promotion is the aim.

“The dressing room is full of good, honest lads who work hard every day and I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time here.”
