MacDonald: Our mindset is on taking nine points

22 April 2021

Tranmere Rovers full-back Calum MacDonald says that Tuesday’s win at Bradford City can give Keith Hill’s men confidence heading into Barrow’s visit to Prenton Park on Saturday.

Rovers returned to winning ways in Yorkshire and are now preparing for a Sky Bet League Two home fixture against Rob Kelly’s Bluebirds this weekend.

And MacDonald feels that TRFC can head into the final three games of the campaign with confidence.

MacDonald said: “At the time of the season that we are now, all that matters is the three points and hopefully the win on Tuesday will give us a kick going forward for the last three games of the season.

“Our mindset is if we’ll take nine points, we’ll see what happens and hope for the best and if we can get nine points from these three games, we’ve got every chance still that we could hopefully be in those top three positions.

“It’s easier to chase the teams then it is to be in there and stay there, and sometimes in football teams go through patches and hopefully we’ve come out the other side and we can come into some good form at the right time.

“Each game causes a different kind of approach and our form when we do score first, holding onto that lead which becomes the natural and you want to maintain what you have been given instead of killing teams off which we were doing earlier in the season, but that’s a mental thing that we can change going into the last three games of the season.

“We’re all in a good condition, the lads are feeling strong, and we can keep going and we’ll all be good.

“If we win these games, it keeps us in with a chance of something to play for and we can set our sights on the top three positions and getting those three points was massive for the lads.”
