Clarke relishing Oldham trip

10 August 2021

Peter Clarke previews Tuesday’s trip to Oldham and reflects on Saturday’s win on the opening day of the season.

“Saturday was amazing. To me, football without the fans there isn’t football. The way the fans get behind us is second to none and we’re very honoured as players to have such fantastic support no matter what the circumstances.”

Tuesday will see Clarke come up against his former club and is relishing the opportunity to play at Boundary Park again.

“Players have different reasons for enjoying playing against their former clubs but perhaps it’s about proving people wrong and proving your doubters wrong. Oldham are my former club but come 10pm on Tuesday night I want to be in the next round of the cup.

“If we perform in a similar way to how we did on Saturday then we will give ourselves the best chance of getting a win and putting ourselves in the next round.“

At the age of 39, Clarke is showing no signs of slowing down but insists that there is no secret to the longevity of his career.

“I love being out there and competing, of course there are things and preparation that go into it and recovery methods. The extra work you do in the gym and other things, it all helps the body to be ready for a matchday whenever that comes along. I love being out there and long may that continue.”
