Doohan: Every game in this league is competitive

10 December 2021

Young goalkeeper Ross Doohan opened up on the importance of Tuesday's win in his press conference after Rovers found a late-winner to earn three points on the road at Oldham.

Doohan who is on loan at Prenton Park from Scottish giants Celtic emphasised Tuesday's triumph as a "must-win game" especially after the disappointment from Saturday.

"Obviously it was a disappointing result on Saturday and going into the game on Tuesday we really wanted to win it, it was a must-win game. So obviously a last-minute winner was a great feeling and it was good to come out of it with three points."

Doohan also paid tribute to Charlie Jolley in his interview who had a remarkable day on Tuesday, being recalled from his temporary spell with Chester and going on to score his first goal for Rovers the very same day.

"It's great to have him back. Coming in from his loan at Chester, starting Tuesday. He did well during the game and obviously (got) the last-minute winner for him. He's a great guy, good to have around the place and I'm very happy for him scoring the winner."

From a defensive perspective, Doohan discussed the importance of keeping a clean sheet midweek, something which had become a regular them for Rovers at the start of the season.

"Obviously we had a good run of clean sheets at the start of the season and the last few weeks haven't really gone to plan that way. After the disappointing game on Saturday to get a clean sheet for me and the defence personally it's great, for the whole team as well, to get the clean sheet and the late goal just topped it off really."

Doohan also offered a quick glance ahead of Saturday's trip to high-flying Exeter, he believes Rovers need to be focused and prepared for the encounter in Devon.

"I feel that every game in this league is competitive, from what I've found coming down so far. You can never go into any game thinking it's going to be an easy day because it's definitely not. We need to go there focus on ourselves, be a 100% ready for the game and hopefully get the win."
