Match winner Nevitt on Exeter victory

12 December 2021

Elliott Nevitt says that he is happy to score and get the win for Tranmere Rovers, after the 1-0 win away to Exeter City.

Nevitt scored the only goal of the game to ensure Micky Mellon’s side secured all three points at St James Park.

He said: “It was a really important goal. My first goal in two months, I think. I’m really happy to score today, and get the win.

“I had to turn and then shoot, but you know with Josh [Dacres-Cogley], there’s no stopping him. You just have to be ready in the box, and he put a good ball in. Luckily, today, I scored.

“It’s all about doing the hard work for the team, and creating chances for everyone else, and hopefully getting chances for myself. Today, with Charlie [Jolley] up front, the work he does is brilliant. I’m happy to have him up front with me.

“When Charlie’s up front, he’ll run. Creating space, and the centre-halves will chase him. Gives me space to get the ball. Or if I run, Charlie can get the ball. If someone puts the ball in the box, there’s two of us there.

“The defence today was brilliant. It was so hard out there today, especially in the second out with all their fans there.”
