Match Preview: Crawley Town (FA Cup)

5 November 2021

It’s Emirates FA Cup action for Tranmere Rovers this weekend, as the side make the trip to Crawley Town for a First Round clash.

Micky Mellon’s side will look to bounce back to winning ways, following last week’s defeat away at Mansfield Town.

Team News

Apart from the absences of Josh Hawkes and Scott Davies, Micky Mellon will have a full squad to utillise this weekend.

One to Watch

Kwesi Appiah

Kwesi Appiah has scored six times in Sky Bet League Two so far this season for Crawley, having joined the club in the summer from Indian Premier League side NorthEast United.

Earlier in his career, he had spells at Ebbsfleet, Peterborough, Brackley, and Margate before a spell at Premier League side Crystal Palace.

He spent five years at Selhurst Park, with a number of loan spells away from the club. Loans included Cambridge, Reading and Norweigian side Viking. He left for AFC Wimbledon permanently in 2017.

Appiah spent three seasons with the club, before making the move to India in October 2020.

Manager

John Yems

Appointed manager of Crawley in December 2019, John Yems is now into his second full season in charge at The People’s Pension Stadium.

Earlier in his career, Yems spent time in charge at Horsham, and had later coaching roles at Fulham and Millwall.

He was appointed caretaker manager at Crawley in 2006, and had a later spell at Exeter City. Yems spent a number of years working for AFC Bournemouth, as their Football Operations Manager.

The 62-year-old then returned to Crawley as manager, and guided the side to a 12th place finish in League Two last season.
