St George's Primary to represent Tranmere Roves in the EFL Kids Cup

11 November 2021

St George’s Primary School have won the opportunity to represent Tranmere Rovers at the EFL Kids Cup Northern Regional Final.

The yearly event has taken place over the last three weeks with over 31 schools entering.

Split over two rounds the schools competed for one of the six places in the final where they would compete for a place in the next round to represent Tranmere Rovers.

St John’s, Great Meols, West Kirby, Birkenhead Prep, Liscard and St George’s Primary Schools all competed in the final that saw plenty of goals being scored in what was an exciting final round.

The final between St George’s and Liscard was of excellent quality and the two schools fought hard for the win with St George’s nudging their way through with a brilliant goal from a free kick just outside the box.

Speaking to a pupil from St George’s they said:

“We started off playing a few games in the first round and smashed it and then we came here to the final which was more difficult and we were a little bit nervous but we kept our heads up and won.

We are excited to go and represent Tranmere Rovers in the next round, we know everyone in the school will be excited and happy for us but at the same time we will be quite nervous as it’s a big deal.”

Speaking about the competition, Shirley Waring, Tranmere Rovers in the Community competition organiser said:

“There was plenty of excellent football on display throughout the whole tournament especially in the final which turned out to be a local derby between the two schools from Wallasey.

Well done to all the teams involved and good luck to St George’s in the next round”

St George’s Primary School will now go on to represent Tranmere Rovers in the Northern Regional Final held at Salford City in March 2022 where they will play for a place at Wembley.

Good Luck to St George’s and well done to all the schools involved, we look forward to working with you all in the future.
