Keith Hill: We have an appetite to be successful

22 February 2021

Keith Hill says that his Tranmere Rovers side have an “appetite to be successful” as they prepare to visit Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two on Tuesday night.

Rovers travel up to Brunton Park aiming to return to winning ways having been held to a 2-2 draw against Oldham Athletic at Prenton Park last Saturday.

TRFC are sixth in the table but should they earn three points over Chris Beech’s Cumbrians, then they could jump up to third if results go their way.

And with 18 league games left, as well as a Papa John’s Trophy Final against Sunderland at Wembley Stadium next month, Hill knows that there is a desire to be successful.

Hill said: “There is an appetite for everyone to be successful. We come in everyday and we plan to win, we train to be successful and the players are no different, that’s just the standard.

“We want to try and create a successful environment and everyday we are planning to win football matches and that includes Carlisle away as well.

“We’re very positive. We’re going to go and be on the front foot and test ourselves against one of the best teams in the league.

“I’m expecting a very tough game. We’ll be humble in our approach. We’ll have to be aggressive and we’ll have to be on the front foot, as we’re travelling away from home.

“It’s a game we’re going into with plenty of confidence and we’re excited about the challenges of Carlisle on Tuesday night and the remaining games.

“Carlisle are an excellent side and we’re going to have to be at our best.

“I’m really pleased with the attitude and application of the players and the contribution of every player on the training pitch. The league table is about getting as many points as you can, and we want to match it with performances, and we are getting good effort, energy and running distance performances.

“We have got a really good skilful group and that is evident in the way that we are playing, and everyone is buying into it.

“We’re ready to go and we are ready to compete. The reward is promotion, so we all have to deal with it and maintain focus on the games that we have remaining, and we are really excited.”
