Nate and Oliver to be first TRFC Virtual Mascots!

18 February 2021

For this weekend’s game we welcome our very first TRFC Virtual Mascots!

Nate Gidman and Oliver Goodchild are our virtual guests of honour as we entertain Oldham Athletic at Prenton Park.

We want to say a big thank you to both for being our mascots for Saturday’s game and we hope they enjoy the game! Here’s a bit more about them…

Name: Nate Gidman

Age: 4

Lives: Lincoln

School: Starts school this September

Favourite Player: Far too many have been awesome to me to pick one. Dad is a massive Iain Hume fan.

First Game: His first game was when he was 2, it was the 0-0 against Lincoln when they won the title but we went on to get promoted. We belted out Tequila for half an hour before kick-off and he was hooked.

Other hobbies: He loves 'Thomas the Tank Engine' and 'Paw Patrol' and really enjoys playing football (not for a team though)

On the 17th of September, Nate was diagnosed with a grade 4 Medulloblastoma, a Brain cancer with a tumour the size of a golf ball that had spread to his spine too.

Emergency surgery took place on the 23rd September (exactly a week before his 4th birthday) to remove the tumour and he's currently had 30 doses of high dose radiotherapy, and has begun a four month course of high dose chemotherapy to destroy the cancer and hopefully make him cancer free.

All across Nate's journey, Tranmere and the Super White Army have been amazing supporting us, every step of the way and we are immensely grateful.

With treatment due to finish this summer, we are hoping for some amazing news.

Oliver Goodchild

Aged 6

Oliver's favourite player is Scott Davies as he was here to help us get out of the National League, has stayed since and signed Oliver's shirt at Prenton Park following promotion from League 2.

Oliver lives in Lincolnshire and supports Tranmere as his Dad and Uncle Ian grew up supporting Rovers and take him to the games when able.

Oliver has enjoyed being able to watch more games on iFollow than he would usually be able to attend in a season.

If you’d like your child to be our TRFC Virtual Mascot for an upcoming game, please email: DebbieQ@tranmererovers.co.uk
