Keith Hill on Leicester U21s challenge

12 January 2021

Keith Hill is expecting a “difficult” challenge when Leicester City U21s visit Prenton Park in the Papa John’s Trophy third-round on Wednesday night.

Rovers welcome the Foxes youngsters to the Wirral having already knocked out Manchester City’s U21 side out in the competition’s previous round.

And Hill is looking forward to seeing Rovers test themselves against another Premier League development squad.

Hill said: “It will be difficult. It’s more of a technical game and it will be high-speed technicality and I’m looking forward to it.

“In the same way that we did against Manchester City, I want to win, and I want to win that competition.

“That competitiveness has got to be there, and it has got to staple diet of effort, competitiveness and then our skill.

“I feel as though we are making progress, and I’m trying to get my values across to the players. I do want hard work and I do want intensity and I want them to represent our supporters and then be successful.”

The manager also gave a squad update, with left-back Liam Ridehalgh set to miss the game after picking up a rib injury in the FA Cup defeat at Barnsley on Sunday.

He added: “It is a process that you have to go through, but on Wednesday, we will be going with the same group of players.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a few back in contention for Stevenage on Saturday , but I don’t think Rides is going to make Wednesday because he has got a rib injury.”
