Hill reacts to win at Southend

9 March 2021

Tranmere Rovers manager Keith Hill gave his thoughts on Tuesday night’s 2-0 win away to Southend United at Roots Hall.

First-half goals in the opening 25 minutes from Paul Lewis and George Ray sealed the three points for Rovers on their travels in Sky Bet League Two.

And reflecting on TRFC’s victory, Hill said: “It was an important game but it’s just an important game, there’s too much emphasis on this group and I thought we bounced back tonight.

“We won today, we’re at Wembley this weekend when most teams in League Two are playing and we’ve got a game on Wednesday when most teams are playing on Tuesday, so the significance of the win is that it helps us.

“We’ll have a special weekend at Wembley representing Tranmere and the supporters but this group that represent the club, and for them to bounce back in pursuit of points and we want to be successful.

“This group of players want to wake up in the morning and they want to improve, they want to be better and it’s a great performance and three points and the desire to keep a clean sheet and win a game of football and I’m so pleased for the players.

“I’m very proud of the group of players and how honest they are, and that was an honest performance and it was a performance of a lot of desire and a lot of ability.”
