Ray expecting tough game against Exeter

19 March 2021

George Ray expects a tough game when Tranmere Rovers welcome Exeter City to Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers return to the Wirral in Sky Bet League Two, with Keith Hill’s men hosting the Grecians this weekend.

Centre-back Ray previewed the fixture against Matt Taylor’s outfit from Devon.

Ray said: “It’s going to be a tough game. They are in and around it and they have got a good squad, but we have got to go into the game and try to win it.

“We rest as much as we can, and you have got to get on with it because teams have two or three games in a week, but it is our job.

“We’ll keep training, and we have to get on the pitch and assess the other team and work on them, so we’re all good.

“We’ll go into every game to win the game and we’ll aim to win as many as we can.”

Ray praised central defensive team-mate Peter Clarke, who he has formed a partnership with at the back.

He added: “Me and Clarkey have a good partnership going so hopefully that can continue. I’ve always kept myself going and now I’m playing.

“Clarkey has played over 800 games and he looks after himself really well, he’s in the gym everyday and his diet and lifestyle and you want to look into his life and think about stuff that I could take from it. He’s a great player and I’d love to be playing at his age.”
