Feeney: We have to dust ourselves down and go again next week

24 October 2021

Experienced midfielder Liam Feeney expressed his frustration at Tranmere's result on Saturday, as Rovers were beaten 2-0 at home to fellow highflyers Northampton United.

Rovers were frustrated all afternoon by their opponents and Feeney discussed the game in detail with local media after the final whistle had been blown.

Feeney believes Rovers weren't at their maximum level on Saturday as their excellent run of form finally came to an end, he stressed the importance of ensuring more days like this don't happen too often.

"I don't think we were fully at a 100% tilt today which is disappointing with the run we've been on, but we have to dust ourselves down and go again next week. It's been a great run and it was always going to come to an end at some point but we've got to make sure days like today don't happen too often.

The 35-year-old identified some of the areas in which Rovers failed themselves on Saturday but stressed that these issues will be addressed by the time of the team's next clash, a trip to Mansfield next weekend.

"I think we had some decent opportunities, some decent balls in the box. I don't think we had enough movement, or aggression in attacking the ball in the box and that's something that I'm sure we'll address and the manager will address this week moving into Saturday.

Saturday's game saw a return to the starting eleven for Liam Feeney, in place of the injured Josh Hawkes, he expressed his disappointment for his teammate but stated he was ready to step in.

"As anyone, if you're not playing you try and make sure you get yourself into the manager's thoughts and when you do get the chance you try and do well and I thought I was doing that. It's disappointing for Josh to be injured but I was more than ready to step in, I'm just disappointed we didn't get the result today.
