MacDonald ready for Forest Green test

23 September 2021

Calum MacDonald says Tranmere Rovers have “nothing to fear” when they head down to Forest Green Rovers in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.

Micky Mellon’s men travel to the league leaders, buoyed by last weekend’s 2-0 home triumph against Salford City at Prenton Park.

Attention now turns to a trip to Nailsworth, where Rob Edwards’ Green Devils await.

And Rovers' number three is ready for the challenge that TRFC will face in Gloucestershire.

MacDonald said: “They were up there and thereabouts last season, they play nice football from what we have seen, but there is nothing to fear, and we believe that we are as strong as anyone else.

“We will go there with a game-plan to try and win the game and if you win a couple of games on the bounce, you can move up many places.

“We know that the table is tight, and it will be for a long time, as this league always is, so we need to keep chipping away, win games and climb the table.

“I don’t think anyone at this club hides the fact that we should be getting promoted, that’s our aim and that’s our goal.

“So, every single day and every single game, we are going to work towards that goal.

“Creating partnerships is going to be big for the season, Josh (Dacres-Cogley) and Cal (McManaman) have got a really good partnership down the right, and if I can come in and we can create a dominant left-hand side, it’s going to be good for the team.”

MacDonald is pleased to be back in action after missing the entirety of pre-season through injury.

Having returned in victories over Leeds United U21s and Salford recently, he now wants to kick-on.

The full-back added: “I missed the majority of pre-season, it was an annoying injury, a niggling thing which kept coming back, so you feel that you’re playing catch up fitness wise, but I feel now I’ve had enough training, 70 minutes on the Tuesday and 90 minutes on Saturday and I feel I’m ready to comeback and kick-on.”

Tickets for this weekend's trip to Forest Green Rovers are still available, so get behind Micky and the lads and be our 12th man this weekend! Full details here
