Clarke raring to go on Saturday

17 September 2021

Peter Clarke says Tranmere Rovers are raring to go ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Salford City at Prenton Park.

Micky Mellon’s men will be hoping to keep the momentum from Tuesday’s Papa John’s Trophy victory over Leeds United U21s.

Rovers return to league action, with the focus now on the visit of Gary Bowyer’s Ammies.

And centre-back Clarke is pleased Rovers have had a quick turnaround in games following on from last weekend’s defeat at Rochdale.

Clarke said: “We came out on the wrong end of the result at Rochdale, and there’s a lot of things that we will learn from that, the opportunity to get back on the pitch is great.

“We won on Tuesday evening, and we want to take that into the game on Saturday against Salford. We want to win every game we play, but so do the opposition.

“We’ll go into it well prepared and ready, and from a collective point of view as Tranmere Rovers, we want to win the game.

“There’s been lots of changes over the summer, players leaving and new players arriving, everything is not going to fall into place overnight, and it’s going to take time, the relationships building and forming, it does take a period of time.

“The squad that we have put together and the personnel that we have got within the building, we have a strong squad and as we grow together, we can push up the league and be challenging at the top of the division.”

Clarke has been nominated for a North West Football Award, in the category of League Two Player of the Season.

He played every minute of every league game for Rovers in the 2020/21 campaign and credits his team-mates for helping him achieve the nomination.

Clarke added: “It’s nice from a personal point of view, to be nominated is fantastic, you’re perhaps doing something right so to be nominated is brilliant.

“The nomination is down to a collective effort from all the boys and everyone doing their jobs on a regular basis which has allowed me to be nominated for the award, so I can’t thank the lads enough for what they do on a daily and weekly basis to be at the point now where I’ve been nominated for the award.”
