Match Report: Tranmere Rovers Women 5-2 West Didsbury & Chorlton

6 September 2021

Tranmere Rovers Women picked up all 3 points in their North West Regional Premier League opener on Sunday at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton

In their first league outing since December 2020 Rovers had some defending to do early on as a constant barrage of corners from the away side were defended well.

It was Tranmere that took the lead through Heather Ryan following good play out wide from Anya McCready; McCready making her first competitive start for Tranmere since her promotion from the youth side.
Ryan doubled hers and Tranmere’s goal tally a few minutes later this time latching onto Lauren Pennington’s cross.

Olivia Hulmston got her rewards for her constant hard work and put Rovers into a 3-0 lead. Similar to Ryan, Hulmston grabbed a second of her own in the first half, this time scoring from range above the stranded West Didsbury keeper.

Rovers were comfortable and in control going into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

The second half didn’t match the first’s tempo with neither side showing much consistency with a number of breaks in play.

However, Rovers pushed on to get a fifth with Hollie Evans from range this time putting Tranmere in an even more comfortable position.

The away side didn’t give up though, as both sides made a number of changes late on West got a goal of their own and doubled their tally almost immediately.

The referee brought the game to an end as five star and five goal Rovers got off to a winning start.
