Tranmere Rovers Football Club will designate a home first team fixture as their first ever memorial match, in memory of supporters who have passed away since 1st January 2020.
For the 2021/22 campaign, the fixture will be Saturday 4th December 2021 (if we reach the second round of the FA Cup and are drawn at home) or on Saturday 8th January 2022 against Scunthorpe United if we are not playing at home on 4th December. Thereafter, there will be a memorial match each season for people who have passed away in the previous 12 months.
We are asking the SWA to send their remembrance messages and photographs for any friends or loved one they have lost since January 2020, and we will put together a special memorial matchday programme which will be produced for the game. These can be e mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or sent to the Club marked for the attention of Tony Coombes. Please note, can you only submit one photograph and no more than 70 words.
We hope also to hold a short memorial service prior to kick off on the designated day. Further details will be provided in due course.
Vice Chair, Nicola Palios, said: “In the past, we have often included in the programme short obituaries for supporters who have died.
“In the last 18 months we have sadly lost more of the SWA than usual due to the pandemic, and for the most part of that time we have been unable to mark their passing in the normal way, as we weren’t playing matches or producing many hard copy programmes.
“We wanted to do something to acknowledge the loss and to give others in the SWA to show their respects. We hope that this will then become an annual event at which we can all come together to celebrate the lives of the SWA who have passed on.”
