McAlear looks ahead to Newport trip

19 August 2022

Reece McAlear was the man in the hot seat on Thursday afternoon as he sat down to answer questions from the local press ahead of Saturday’s trip across the border to Newport County.

After arriving at Prenton Park this summer, Reece says that he is settling in well to life on the Wirral.

“I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a great group of boys, the coaching staff are fantastic and so is the Gaffer. I done my research before coming here so I wanted to come here as soon as I knew about it. I’ve moved into my house now and once you feel good off the pitch, it helps you do well on the pitch. I’ve good a lot more to come.

“Results build confidence and momentum and we should have won on Tuesday. Myself included, I should be hitting the target with some of my shots but there’s always another game and we need to focus on that.”

That next game comes in the shape of a visit to Rodney Parade and Newport County who have had a faltering start to the campaign but still possess a strong squad which will no doubt pose Rovers threats.

“It’s early in the season with only three games played so nobody can be judged yet. Newport will be a good team and will be ready for it, just like we will. We’ve got to take it game by game and start with trying to win on Saturday.

“Like every game, we’ll try to start fast. It doesn’t matter where they are in the table, they’ll be a good team. I heard that the away record wasn’t great last year but we just need to make that better and I’m sure that we will.

“We’ve got a strong team and we will all help each other so we will be ready for it.”
