Tranmere Rovers Women 3-1 Mossley Hill Ladies

26 August 2022

Tranmere Rovers Women secure another three points after defeating local Merseyside team, Mossley Hill Ladies.

Tranmere started strongly with a string of chances but Mossley Hill defended well and managed to clear their lines.

The game was a real battle in midfield with both sides conceding fouls in and around the halfway line and there was a real heart in mouth moment for Tranmere when Captain Lindsey Smith went down under a challenge just inside the Tranmere half but after some treatment, she was back to her feet and into the thick of the action.

Tranmere were awarded a penalty when Ellie Doyle was brought down by a challenge from behind as she raced through, but the referee failed to show the defender a card for the challenge.

Up stepped Laura Pennington who saw her spot kick down the middle saved but she got there ahead of the defenders to hammer home the rebound to give Tranmere the lead with five minutes to go until halftime.

On the stroke of halftime, Tranmere double their lead when a misplaced pass was picked up by Bethan Woolley who fed young Anya McCready, beating the offside trap she showed composure ahead of her years as she took a touch and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net.

Mossley Hill started the second half strong with a number of chances but the Rovers back line managed to maintain their two goal lead.

Ellie Doyle extended Tranmere’s lead as she picked up a brilliant ball from Kiah Sullivan that saw her shot rebound off the Mossley defender and into the back of the net.

Tranmere started to see the game out with the midfield duo of Bethan Woolley and Rachel Unsworth controlling the tempo in the middle of the park.

Heading into stoppage time and Mossley Hill pull back a late consolation but there was to be no late comeback as Tranmere made it two wins from two in their opening games of the 2022-23 season.

Up next for the Ladies is West Didsbury and Chorlton Ladies away at the Step Places Stadium on the 31st August, 6:30pm Kick off.
